Uploading Images to Your Blog

If you are using Subtext at WebHost4Life and you would like to enable the Gallery on your blog so you can upload images, here are the steps.

  1. Log in to the WH4L Control Panel.
  2. Click on Security in the nav menu.
  3. Click File Permission in the sub menu (under site access).
  4. Navigate to the Images folder under your Subtext.Web installation folder. It will have a path similar to "c:\webhost4life\member\yourname\Subtext.Web\Images" depending on your choices when installing Subtext.
  5. Inside the Images folder you will see a folder with your blogs domain name with underscores replacing the dots. It will be similar to www_blog-howto_com. Click "Edit" to the right of this folder. Don't open the folder because you don't want to edit items inside this folder. You want to edit permissions on this folder itself.
  6. You will see a drop down list with several users to select from. Below that you will see a list of File Permissionspermissions you can assign. The goal is to give write permissions to the user account the blog is running under.
  7. Look for the user account named Network Service and give it write permissions. (Include the read and execute permissions it already has. Use Ctrl-click to do multi-select.)
  8. After your changes, you should see Network Service - RWX listed under Current Permission Settings. However, you have to go back to step 3 above and navigate to the folder again before you will see the updated permissions. (If you click refresh in your browser, you will have to log in again.)
  9. Propagate your changes to sub folders and files and click "Make Changes".
  10. Tips: if you have problems and you can't get this to work, you can try granting full permissions to Everyone for the Images folder. This will work, but it should be done for testing only. Once you have image uploading working with this setting, go back and restrict the permissions further as described above.
